5 God’s Love Language You Never Knew

Hello Blog Bestie, how have you been? and How is your relationship with God? For the past 2-3 weeks I have been talking about an intimate relationship with God and if you haven’t read the previous blog post. Click on this link to read it https://journeywithomoye.com/2023/04/15/how-to-build-an-intimate-relationship-with-god/.

Today is about God’s love language. Love language is how you receive and express love in a relationship. So, when we are in a relationship with someone or even before we enter into any relationship we all have a love language. Now think about it, just as we have a love language, do you think God also has a love language? Let’s dive in and find out what they are;

1. Time and Attention: As I mentioned in my earlier blog post the redemption plan was for us to have a close relationship with us, a direct one. He wants our attention and time to be with Him. So one of God’s love languages is your attention and time you invest in the works of God and your relationship with God. You invest your time through daily bible study and prayer, making God a priority, seeking His own opinion in matters.

Giving God your attention is not about carrying your Bible, it is about your mind being focused on Him. Think of it as with your partner, you want to spend quality time with that person and that moment you just want your partner to give you their whole attention, that’s how it should be with God. Don’t let your mind be far and your body present, both should be present.

2. Praise and Thanksgiving: As humans, you know how high and mighty we feel whenever we are praised or thanked. Imagine this, you bought a gift for someone which cost you dearly but instead of the person appreciating it, they reject it. You won’t be happy, right? So put it this way, God had sent His only begotten son to die for our sins and we now receive a gift of salvation. Our praise and thanksgiving are to be given to Him. Just as you love it whenever you are praised, God is happy to know that we appreciate Him for all He has done instead of complaining.

So try thanking God more than complaining to Him (God loves to hear and know what is going on in your life but He would prefer you approach Him with a mindset that He has solved it already). That thing you want to complain about why don’t you thank Him in advance for helping you sort it out.

Remember Philippians 4:6 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

3. Faith and Trust: Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith living within us, it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him. This scripture already spells it all out. Would you not be happy to know that your partner trusts you and has faith in your decision? As they say, a Relationship is built on trust. God feels pleased when you put your trust in Him at all times.

Like Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go”.

I love the way TPT puts it, knowing the love language of your partner you become more intimate. But don’t forget, don’t just know it but act on it. You now know that trusting God is His love language, let go of doubts.

4. Service and Sacrifice: I have a friend of mine who said his love language is an act of service and that’s really beautiful. I attended a program and one of the guest speakers said “We are all called to serve, you serve your partner, your parents, your siblings and even, your friends”. We know sacrifice is about giving up something for someone.

So think about this, you have a partner who is allergic to Fish and you love fish but because of that you have to sacrifice your love for fish for your partner. Now place that in your relationship with God, you have to sacrifice your fleshy desire for the kingdom of God and also serve God honestly. Serving God is by serving others, serving in the church and your home even in your workplace, It sweetens God to see you serve, so if you have not been serving, have a rethink.

5. Obedience and Worship: How do you feel when your sibling or child obeys the instructions you give them? You would be pleased right? Now put it in your relationship with God, your Heavenly Father. God does not just us to know but to also obey.

Roman 2:13 says  it’s not merely knowing the law. that makes you right with God, but doing all that the law says that will cause God to pronounce you innocent.

It is not about just the knowledge, obedience is also required. Romans 6:11-14 talks about considering ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ, so you are no longer an instrument of sin but of righteousness which means your life should worship God. I am not talking about singing worship songs and lifting our hands, I am talking about worship as a lifestyle.

The secret to a lifestyle of worship is doing everything as if I was doing it for Jesus was a quote I read from a blog. Let me give an example; work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awareness of His presence. A lifestyle of Worship is to be obedient to the Will of God. You would be happy to find out that your partner listen to your advice and acted on it, so when you ask God for advice, don’t just hear or listen, obey it. OBEY THE WORD OF GOD.

I was going through my old jotter and I came across God’s Love Affection and was led to share it today. What stood out most for you in today’s blog post, share it with us in the comment section. I love you all but Christ loves you best.

Till I write again…
